Next up: The Night Off

Next up: The Night Off

Next time on the LadyLike Book Club, we return to Battle Scars author Meghan O’Brien!  This time we read The Night Off, an incredibly readable book that is — fair warning — the dirtiest book we have read so far:

TheNightOffEmily Parker has a busy life over which she maintains iron-clad control. Raised by drug-addicted parents, she’s used to taking care of the people around her, to the exclusion of her own needs. But not tonight. After years of celibacy, she’s ready to pay for exactly what she wants: to surrender control, by having it taken away.

Having worked as a high-priced escort for years, Nat Swayne not only enjoys her job—she’s damn good at it. Dangerously sexy, she knows precisely how to fulfill the fantasies of women who enjoy her special brand of make-believe—all without ever becoming emotionally involved.

When their night of intense play turns into something more, Emily and Nat can’t help but pursue a connection in the real world. Unfortunately, old habits die hard, and love isn’t always enough.

Uh huh!  Yeah!  This is, to put it gently, a kissing book.  Ahem.  Ahem hem.  Our listener who shared with us that these books served as a particular kind of aid?  YOU’RE WELCOME.

Planning on reading along?  Pick up a copy using the links below and put the tiniest amount of money in our pockets:

  •  Buy it in paperback and read it on the bus, I dare you
  • Buy it on Kindle (also readable using the Kindle app for Android and iOS)

We’re putting off the excellent And Playing The Role of Herself for another two weeks because we’re visited by the queen of TRNs, Anne’s mom!  The ladies are so excited, they start chatting before the mics are even fully set up.  Join us as we discuss such subjects as:

  • Mom’s feelings on expletives
  • Email from another author – Merry Shannon!
  • Theories on the diminution of romance novels
  • How and why my mom came to romance novels
  • Romance vs. romance novel
  • Nora Roberts, be my mom’s friend
  • Intimacy in books
  • Schoolin’ us on the nature of mainstream romance novels & novelists
  • Writing what you don’t know
  • …which Foley did with great success, available now!
  • Compartmentalization of genre via publishers… and librarians

And then a firm left turn into musicals.  Thanks, Anne’s mom, for participating!  And if any of you can get her a playdate with Nora, hook us up.

Trinkets are stolen… as are hearts!

Perhaps bodices aren’t ripped in this month’s book, but they are definitely gently tugged.  Like our heartstrings.  By this book, that we liked.  We liked this book.
